Postgraduate Diploma/Certificate in Biodiversity Conservation and Management
About this programme
The survival of the Earth's
biological diversity is under continuous threat from habitat loss and
the over-exploitation of natural resources. It has been estimated that
a significant proportion of all species could become extinct in the
short to medium term. This programme addresses the urgent need to conserve
global biodiversity for the benefit of future generations.
Programme aims
The programme gives students the opportunity
to develop:
-
a
broad understanding of biological diversity at species, genetic
and ecosystem levels
-
the ability and confidence to formulate effective management policies
and conservation strategies
-
the
skills required to manage in situ and ex situ
animal and plant conservation projects
-
a basic understanding of breeding and biotechnology and the ways
in which genetic resources are utilised
-
an
awareness of the ethical and moral issues involved in the conservation
and utilisation of biological resources
