message from Professor Sir Andrew Haines,
Director of the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine
The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine is the oldest school
of public health in the world. Its mission is to contribute to the improvement
of health worldwide through the pursuit of excellence in research, postgraduate
teaching and advanced training in national and international public
health and tropical medicine, and through informing policy and practice
in these areas.
Through its distance learning courses the School has been able to make
its specialised advanced training widely available. The University currently
have 1,200 distance learning students registered in 120 countries studying
courses in Epidemiology, Infectious Diseases and Public Health.
The University's aim is to meet the needs of health practitioners, clinicians,
policy-makers, laboratory scientists and scientists who want to obtain
a world-class qualification in aspects of public health and tropical
medicine.
