Demography
Prerequisite:
04a Statistics 1
First part -
Technical Demography: Basic demographic indicators, analysis and
models, the life table, stationary and stable population models, elementary
methods of population projection, the proximate determinants of fertility.
This will be tested by questions which will involve calculation plus
comment and interpretation.
Second part
- Social Demography: The central idea of this part is Demographic
transition: the movement from high mortality and fertility through growth,
to low mortality and fertility. Western demographic history, including
the major trends in mortality, fertility and nuptiality to the present
day. Third world trends, convergence? Social, economic and cultural
factors in demographic processes in different parts of the world and
at different times.
