Director's
welcome
A
message from Chris Dewberry Course Director
All
over the world many millions of people work in organizations. Understanding
these organizations, and the human processes which take place within
them, is therefore of great importance. Armed with such knowledge it
is possible to make organizations function more effectively, not only
from the point of view of the people who work in them, but also from
the point of view of other interested parties such as customers and
shareholders.
The programmes in Organizational Psychology and Human Resource Management
set out in this prospectus are designed to familiarise students with
the best and most up-to-date theory and research available on organizations,
and particularly the psychological and social processes which operate
within them. Covering topics such as organizational analysis, organizational
change, motivation and performance, careers, personnel selection, training,
well-being at work, and international human resource management, the
programmes have been designed to give students a sound foundation of
knowledge about organizations, to provide a theoretical framework with
which to make sense of organizations, and to develop critical thinking
skills.
The Department of Organizational Psychology, Birkbeck College, in which
the programmes have been developed, is the leading academic centre in
the UK for organizational psychology, and all staff are experts in their
field, having national and international reputations.
I hope that this web site will provide you with all the information
you need, and that you will be inspired to apply for a postgraduate
diploma or degree programme from one of the great universities of the
world.
