Postgraduate study in History Education

How to Apply

You can either complete and return the application form by post, or you can now apply online.

Application by post

1.Complete the application form (pdf 4pages, 88Kb) or you may request a prospectus to be posted to you. You will find an application form stapled in the middle of the prospectus and submit it by post (not by fax) together with the fee and all the documentation listed on the form, to:

Whichever way you choose to apply, you are strongly advised to submit your application as early as possible, especially as a quota will be in operation in 2007/8 and registrations will be accepted on a first come, first served basis.

If you wish to register in the January 2010 intake of students, the latest date by which your application must be received by the Postgraduate Admissions Office is 15 November 2009. If you wish to register in the September 2010 intake of students, your application must be received by 30 June 2010. Please note that, whilst it is sometimes possible to consider an application received after the published deadline date, there can be no guarantee that your application will be accepted. You may be required to wait until the following year before you are able to register.

2. The University will acknowledge receipt of your application form and send you a student number to use as a reference whenever you contact the University. Everyone who applies is allocated a number. You should receive an acknowledgement within three weeks of posting your application, but if you do not please contact the Postgraduate Admissions Office (to help the University in identify your application please give your full name, the programme for which you have applied and the date you posted your form).

3. Your application will be considered only when they has received all your documentary evidence and both references. After due consideration you will be told if your application has been successful or not.

Note: if there is a delay in sending any of the documentation or your references they will wait to receive them before they can begin considering your application. This is because they need to have as much information about you as possible before they reach a decision.

4. If your application has been successful they will send you a conditional offer of registration together with the following documents:

– a fee slip for the registration and course fees
– a registration form on which you indicate your choice of courses
– a copy of the Regulations
– information on how to complete the induction module

Please note that the offer of registration will be valid only for the year specified in the offer letter.

5. To register, complete the registration form, fee slip, and the form confirming you have completed the induction module. Return them by 31 August together with the registration fee and the course fees for the courses you will be taking at your first examination, to:

Notes:

  • You are asked to note that there is a limit to the number of students who can be registered for this programme. Therefore registration will only be confirmed on payment of the appropriate fee, if there is still a place available for that study year and if you have completed the induction module.

  • A student whose registration is not confirmed will be made an offer to register for the following year instead.

  • Applicants come to the University from all over the world, with a variety of qualifications, and as a result they consider each application thoroughly and on an individual basis. The University regret that it is not possible for the University to give you any informal advice on your eligibility for admission. For this reason, you must make a formal application before they can tell you whether you could be accepted.

Translation of Certificates and Transcripts

 

If your certificates and transcripts are printed in a language other than English you will need to have them officially translated into English. Official translators are usually listed in local telephone directories. When you have located one near to you, take your original certificates and transcripts to their office. The Translator should take a copy of the originals and stamp / emboss them with an official seal and sign them. The originals should be returned to you.

 

After the translation into English is complete, the Translator should stamp / emboss these with the same official seal and sign them. Each of the stamped / embossed / signed documents both in English and the original language should be sent to the University in London in support of your application.

 

If it is a Master level programme which you are applying to join, your official translations will not be sent back to you. If it is a Bachelor level programme which you are applying to join and you would like the official translations returned to you, add the sum indicated on the Application Handling Fee slip and the University will return them to you by Recorded Delivery.
