Bachelor of Laws (LLB)

Exemptions (non-automatic)

If you satisfy the criteria, you may apply for exemptions on a discretionary basis from up to four Intermediate subjects under Scheme A or Scheme B. (There can be no exemptions from subjects under the Graduate Entry Routes).

You may apply for non-automatic exemptions if you have passed the following exams:

  1. professional examinations leading to practice as a lawyer outside England and Wales;
  2. the Part II examination of the Institute of Legal Executives, provided that within this examination the student has passed subjects corresponding to the Intermediate level subjects of the University of London and provided also that the student has taken and passed the Part I examination of the Institute. Exemption will be given automatically from the paper in English Legal System and the exemption application fee will not be charged for this paper;
  3. The Diploma in Legal Studies of the University of Hong Kong (SPACE) is accepted as meeting the requirement of a pass in the Part I examination of the Institute of Legal Executives.

A fee is payable for each subject from which you apply for exemption. This fee is currently £50 per subject.

The fee is non-refundable even if the University are unable to award you any exemptions. The University will only be able to fully consider your exemption application after the University has received the necessary documentary evidence and fee.
