Dr
Anita Berlin, MBBS MRGP MA
Dr Anita Berlin is a part time general practitioner and Senior Lecturer
in Medical Education. She has more than 10 years of experience in medical
education and has a Masters degree in Higher and Professional Education
from the Institute of Education, London.She spent 9 years at Imperial
College London, where she contributed to a three-fold increase in general
practice undergraduate teaching and recruited practitioner teachers.
She held various posts including Joint Director of Education (in the
department of General Practice) and was awarded a Fellowship of Imperial
College in recognition of her contribution to undergraduate education.
She was joint founder of the International Course in General Practice
between UCL and Imperial, and facilitated all eleven courses, which
hosted nearly 200 participants from more than 40 countries. She has
worked extensively with Spanish general practitioners since 1989 and
has acted as a consultant in Poland, Brazil, Uzbekistan and Argentina.

Petra Boynton, BA PhD
Dr Petra Boynton has a background in social psychology. Her PhD in applied
human psychology focussed on research methods used to evaluate the impact
of the media on health related decision-making. Petra has lectured at
a number of UK universities, specialising in research methodologies
(both qualitative and quantitative). Her research has covered topics
including women involved in street prostitution, intermediate care for
older people, gender and heart disease, and sexual functioning in general
practice patients. She is currently writing a book on research issues
in community settings.
Dr Will Coppola, MA DRCOG MRCGP
Dr Will Coppola is a part time general practitioner and Clinical Lecturer
in Primary Care. He is Technical Director of this MSc programme. He
has a strong interest in computing and health informatics, and is involved
in a number of ongoing research projects based at UCL to develop and
evaluate innovative technologies for health care and web-based education.

Trisha Greenhalgh, OBE MA MD FRCP FRCGP ILTM
Trisha
Greenhalgh is Professor of Primary Health Care at UCL and a part-time
general practitioner in north London. She gained a first degree in social
sciences from Clare College, Cambridge and completed her undergraduate
medical studies at Oxford University. She spent 7 years in hospital
medicine before entering academic general practice, and has worked at
UCL since 1990. Her main research interests are the implementation and
evaluation of evidence-based practice and the design and delivery of
culturally appropriate diabetes services for minority ethnic groups.
Professor Greenhalgh was awarded the Order of the British Empire from
Her Majesty the Queen in 2000 for services to medicine. Her other distinctions
include the Royal College of General Practitioners’ Research Paper
of the Year Award in 1998 for her work on participatory research with
the London Bangladeshi community, the 2000 Baxter Award for the best
publication on health care management from theEuropean Healthcare Management
Association, and the French 2001 Prix du Livre Medicale et Pharmaceutique
(best medical or pharmaceutical textbook).
She has published over 90 peer-reviewed academic papers and 7 books
in the fields of health services research, evidence-based health care,
narrative in health care, research methodology, and the academic foundations
of primary health care. Her book ‘How to Read a Paper: the Basics
of Evidence Based Medicine’ has sold over 60000 copies worldwide
and been
translated into 9 languages.
Ms Jill Russell, BSc(Econ) MSc ILTM
Jill Russell is a Non-Clinical Lecturer in Primary Care, with a background
in social policy and an MSc in information technology. She has extensive
research experience in health and social policy, specialising in the
evaluation of policy innovations with a particular focus on the user’s
perspective. As a Visiting Research Fellow to the King’s Fund,
she advised the Fund on the development of its Community Oriented Primary
Care Programme and, more recently, on the evaluation of case studies
in public health development throughout the UK. She has published around
25 peer-reviewed publications in the field of health services development,
and is developing a new research interest in evaluation and quality
assurance in open and distance learning.
Dr Peter Toon, BSc MSc MRCGP DPMSA ILTM
Dr Peter Toon is a general practitioner and Senior Lecturer in Primary
Care. He has an academic background in psychology and philosophy, in
which fields he has published more than 50 peer-reviewed papers. He
has extensive experience in planning, delivering and evaluating medical
education at undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing education levels.
He had a key role in the widely acclaimed London Initiative Zone Educational
programme, an ambitious and broad-ranging initiative to address the
professional development needs and motivation of doctors working in
the most deprived areas of London.
He
has been the Royal College of General Practitioners St Petersburg Fellow
since 1992, founding a partnership between the RCGP and the Medical
Academy of St Petersburg, Russia that continues today. He has considerable
experience in developing primary care services and educational programmes
in countries where primary care services are being developed, including
Russia, Latvia, Macedonia, Croatia, Kazakstan and Uzbekestan.
Dr Geoff Wong, MA MRCGP ILTM
Dr Geoff Wong is a part time general practitioner and Clinical Lecturer
in Medical Education. He has wide experience of curriculum development
and organisation for both undergraduate and postgraduate clinical courses,
and undertakes research in medical education. He has a particular interest
in developing methods to ascertain and address the unique needs and
learning styles of individual students on online courses, and is currently
leading a research study on this topic.
